Project Spotlight

Under the leadership of Joan Mummert and with the support of countless community partners and donors, the York County History Center (formerly the York County Historic Trust) completed the construction of its new flagship museum, archives, and administrative offices in downtown York. The facility, envisioned as a vibrant cultural anchor and communal hub in downtown York, sits at the corner of Philadelphia and Pershing Streets in what was once a MetEd steam plant.

Museums only open once, and the History Center team understood the importance of showcasing the new location’s amenities and exhibits, celebrating the individual donors and organizations that made it all possible through generous financial support, and cementing “A Night for Making History” into the memories of guests during the June 22, 2024 gala.

Our team was tasked to elevate and transform the event spaces using lighting and audio, project images from the History Center’s archival collection to create an immersive experience, and create lounge furniture pods throughout the building to create gathering spots, in addition to providing on-site audio support for the ceremonial ribbon cutting and festivities in the atrium.

A prominent feature of the new museum is the original steam tower stack, which gave us an opportunity to illuminate the structure in visually interesting and impactful ways. Using Elation Proteus Maximus fixtures sourced from MainLight, the #ShuCrew designed and programmed projected lighting effects on the stack as the gala concluded and remained in place for city residents to enjoy through the end of June.
