Project Spotlight

On May 13, 2023, Franklin & Marshall College held its 236th Commencement in the Alumni Sports and Fitness Center. Over the years, this impressive field-house facility has been transformed by the team at Shumaker PDT for numerous events, including Tribute Weekend celebrations, galas, and capital campaign kickoffs. The multi-use space is a blank canvas for high-caliber and complex event production.

This year’s Commencement featured a number of firsts, including a new seating plan and lighting design, creating a more intimate and celebratory atmosphere for the graduates by allowing families and friends to “wrap” around them. Attendees were closer to the graduates than in years past, which provided more opportunities to capture those special moments and be more active participants in the celebration.

Services provided:

  • Pre-event planning and advisory
  • Logistics and event management
  • On-site coordination and installation
  • Event project management
  • Stage design
  • Lighting design
  • Event production design
  • Professional audiovisual installation and support

The Shumaker PDT team or “ShuCrew,” as we affectionately call ourselves, has served as the official production partner for the College for nearly twenty years. Our long-standing understanding of the event production needs of this elite liberal arts college and our unwavering commitment to executing at the highest level continue to raise the bar for these important life events for students, faculty, and staff.

It’s always fun to see the progress of an event from initial load-in through the final execution. We don’t talk about the final strike. No one really likes that part. Enjoy these behind-the-scenes(BTS) photos of the days leading up to the 236th Commencement at Franklin & Marshall College.
